Offer a workshop, performance, or demonstration at the Convergence!
Thanks for your interest in giving a presentation at the West Coast Convergence for Climate Action and helping us build a truly monumental event in the movement for climate justice!
Below is some important information for all of our workshop presenters - please read it carefully! You can also download information for presenters as a Word document.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
We are looking for workshops on the broad spectrum of issues related to climate change, the energy industry, and movement building and cultural and societal shifts needed to stop it. We are also looking for musical, theatrical, and artistic presentations and performances. To get an idea of the breadth of material we are open to, please see the list of workshops we are hoping to offer.
If you have a workshop, there is a very high likelyhood we are open to it. The Convergence organizers ask that you read and ensure your workshop does not conflict with the following broad principles established by the organizers:
The Convergence for Climate Action is committed to Earth-centered, community-based solutions to the climate crisis that foster local autonomy and self-sufficiency. We see corporate led, business friendly “solutions” to the climate crisis as inherently opposed to this vision. We do not accept alternative energy sources that externalize their costs onto human and natural communities in the name of reducing carbon emissions. This includes but is not limited to nuclear power, “clean” coal, large scale ethanol and biofuels, carbon sequestration, trading, or offsets, and large dams. We believe these technologies have social and environmental costs that outweigh benefits they provide in regards to fighting climate change. We ask that any presentations on alternative energy technologies include a discussion addressing issues of consumption; we feel no future energy technologies can be considered sustainable without reductions in our energy and resource consumption. |
ESSENTIAL LOGISTICS INFO FOR WORKSHOP PRESENTERS:
The convergence starts on Wednesday the 8th. Most workshops will be taking place Thursday the 9th through Saturday the 12th unless your workshop is related to event setup or direct action (in which case Wednesday and Sunday are respectively open). If you cannot do your workshop the 9th-12th or if there is some compelling reason to have your workshop on another day you need to let us know. (These scheduling guidelines do not apply to performers, contact us for more details!)
All workshop spaces will have access to white boards or paper flip charts. Unless you tell us otherwise, we'll assume your workshop is about 1:45 minutes long. If you need special equipment of any sort for your workshop, please do not assume it will be there: you absolutely must make prior arrangements with us. Please be aware that use of electricity at the convergence is extremely limited, but can be made available with prior planning.
TRAVEL & REGISTRATION FOR PRESENTERS:
Please register online at our website if you plan on attending the convergence so we can adequately plan for all attendees.
We are happy to annouce that we have free transportation arranged from San Francisco and Portland! We also have a very limited travel scholarship budget for presenters - please contact us ASAP for more information. We are happy to waive registration fees for all presenters who can not afford registration.
TO SUBMIT AN ACTIVITY PROPOSAL:
Please send a short description of your proposed activity prior to July 29th if you would like your workshop to be considered for the printed schedule - don't stress it, it needn't be perfect or polished.
All proposals should be directed to workshopswest@climateconvergence.org or 503-493-7495. Please feel encouraged to contact us anytime for more information.
We will also provide space for ad-hoc and impromptu workshops and activities of all sorts, simply check-in at the welcome area when you arrive.
