What To Expect and What To Bring

What To Expect

Camping & Accommodations:
The convergence will be held at River’s Turn Farm near Eugene, OR. There is running water and bathrooms, but there will not be electricity available except for emergencies.

Be aware that the primary on site accommodations will be camping, so make sure to come prepared for wind or rain.

Please plan to bring your own tarp, tent, and bedding. We will have a very limited amount of extra bedding and tarp space on an “on request” basis.

Please contact us for more information.

For those who would prefer not to camp, we encourage you to seek reservations at local hotels or bed & breakfasts- check back soon for a list.

Food!
There will a kitchen providing a lite breakfast, sandwich assembly line lunch, and dinner to anyone who wants it throughout the convergence.

Due to refrigeration restrictions and environmental concerns, food will be mostly vegetarian, although individuals are free and encouraged to bring their own food; bringing your own cookware and stove is strongly encouraged, although we hope to have one small “1st come, 1st serve” shared cooking space for small group meal preparation in addition to main kitchen.

PLEASE feel extremely encouraged to bring food or money to donate to the kitchen.

Everyone should bring their own snacks for during the day. If you have special needs for food, are a picky eater, or need to eat meat regularly for your health, we strongly encourage you to bring your food or to collaborate with other people coming from your neck of the woods about starting your own “neighborhood” kitchen.

Safer Space Policy

In order to create a safe and productive environment for activism and community, we will not be tolerating behavior that demeans, marginalizes, or threatens people. Examples are offensive remarks about person’s gender, age, sexual orientation, race, mental health, culture, general appearances, income status, being a parent or a child, employed or unemployed, level of experience in activism, etc….

Any type of sexual, verbal, or physical assault will be taken especially seriously by the convergence organizers. On account of the short nature of the event and limited resources, convergence participants may be asked to immediately leave the event should they be accused of oppressive behavior.

The organizers of the Convergence for Climate Action believe that anti-oppression work is vital to community organizing and to building a movement to eliminate the exploitation of people and the planet. The Convergence for Climate Action will have anti-oppression workshops and all participants, particular presenters, are strongly encouraged to participate if they are able to do so; no other workshops will be scheduled during these time blocks.

Other Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Can I come for just a day or two?

Of course! We’d love it if you came for longer, but please feel free to come for a day and a night, or just a day. If you can only come for a day, we suggest Saturday.

2. Can I bring my dog?

Sorry! Sadly this year we are not able to accommodate dogs at the climate convergence at all. We LOVE doggies, but it doesn’t work for the farm which is hosting the convergence this year.

3. Is the event kid-friendly?

Absolutely, and we will be providing free childcare for at least parts of the convergence. Let us know your childcare needs when you register.

4. Is there cell phone service? Internet access?

Not sure- check back soon.
