Working Groups

Participating in organizing an event such as the Convergence for Climate Action is an empowering experience and a great step in getting more involved in the movement for climate justice.

There are a lot of benefits to helping out as an organizer, including the opportunity to combat a feeling of being helpless and overwhelmed. And, you’ll get to work with super great folks, who could really use your help!

A great way to become an organizer for the Convergence is to join one of the Working Groups.

Our Organizing Structure

The organizing collective of the Convergence for Climate Action is based on a non-hierarchical, consensus-based decision-making process, which is facilitated by an organizing structure of four working groups.

These working groups are empowered to work as a team, or affinity group, autonomously and independently, although many decisions are brought back to the collective for discussion.

Currently we meet in person and through conference call, so you can help organize from anywhere!

The Four Working Groups

On-Site logistics: This group of dedicated individuals is working on making sure we have everything we need at the location during the event. They are organizing meals and water, compost, trash and recycling, hand-wash stations, the first-aid booth, the welcome tipi, campfires, sound system and stage, and security.  If you can offer assistance with any of these things, or if you would like to join the working group, please contact them directly.

Workshops and Activities: These visionaries are piecing together all of the amazing activities for our participants to enjoy. They are in charge of scheduling workshops and skill shares, organizing childcare and activities for kids, planning music and art activities, and organizing actions. If you are a band that would like to participate in this event, or an organization or individual interested in leading a workshop, or if you would like to help out in any other way with this working group, please contact them directly or you can offer a workshop online.

Outreach: These motivated folks are doing a great job of putting together outreach materials, such as press releases, fliers, posters, and post-cards, and distributing them to our local contacts. We need lots of people to help get the word out about the Convergence, so that everyone who wants to be part of the movement is given the information and opportunity to participate. If you would like to help with outreach, writing, networking, mailing, or have graphic design skills, or if you work with the media and want more information, please contact this group directly.

Process: This detail-oriented team is taking on the task of making sure everything that needs to happen, is happening. This includes volunteer recruitment, managing finances and donations, planning and facilitating meetings and basic internal infrastructure management. If you would like to help this group keep it all together, or if you have questions about anything (especially if it doesn’t fit into the categories above), please contact this group directly.
